HATTON COMBINED CHARITIES
Helping those living within Hatton, Haseley, Shrewley & Beausale for some 350+ years.
Hatton Combined Charities came about as an amalgamation of an educational foundation trust and individuals who had all left funds and land for the poor and needy in the ancient parish of Hatton.
They consist of The Coat & Gowan charity of William Edwards circa 1885, an educational foundation.
The charity of Jane Baker founded by will proved in London in March 1849.
The charity of Jane Norcliffe in 1897, as an order made by the charity Commission.
The charity of Catherine Throckmorton founded by feoffment before 1652.
The combination of these charities was approved on the 15th June 1909, for the parishes of Hatton, Shrewley and Beausale.
Trustees were appointed and given a scheme for eleemosynary (charitable) purposes in the parishes, which remains to this day.
The trust owned large portions of land in the area which was rented to parishioners, eventually the majority was sold off and the proceeds invested for the charities income.
The scheme has changed little over the years, with trustees chosen from the parish and investments providing the income.
Back in the day the charity gave coal, clothing, working boots and monetary assistance amongst other things to those in the area who needed help. And today it continues to help those in need.
Hatton Combined Charities is able to give monetary help to:
- Those struggling on a low income.
- People who have unexpected bills to pay.
- Individuals with a change in financial circumstances.
- Students and apprentices for the cost of books and tools.
- People struggling to get to and from hospital appointments.
- Those in need of help with funeral costs, beds, soft furnishing or white goods.
